Introduction

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was founded in Shanghai, China, in 1896, with the goal of cultivating talented professionals for the nation. Today, SJTU has become one of the world's top 100 universities and a key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People's Republic of China and co-constructed by MOE and Shanghai Municipal Government. SJTU is currently comprised of 6 campuses with more than 300 hectares.
SJTU has 34 schools/departments, 12 affiliated hospitals, 13 affiliated research institutes, 23 directly affiliated units and 5 directly affiliated enterprises, with 18,004 full-time undergraduates, 28,439 full-time master degree candidates, and 1,858 overseas students. SJTU faculty includes 3,887 full-time teachers, 30 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 27 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. As a comprehensive university, SJTU offers 75 undergraduate programs covering 9 major disciplines: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and arts.

Over the 128 years of its history, SJTU has educated more than 400,000 talents for the country and the world, including Jiang Zemin, a former president of China, and Tsien Hsue-shen, China's "Father of Space Science." Other famous SJTU scholars include Wu Wenjun, a great master of mathematics and winner of the first National Supreme Award for Science and Technology, as well as Wang Zhenyi, winner of the Kettering Prize for cancer research. Over 200 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering are SJTU alumni.
SJTU enjoys an increasingly high scientific research level and technological innovation level. Over the past 2 decades, SJTU has won 99 national science awards, and has led the country for the 14th consecutive year in terms of the number of projects founded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2023, the number of CNS papers hits a historical high with a total number of 51. SJTU is encouraging talents all over the world.
SJTU also prioritizes the quality of its campus facilities, such as libraries, student innovation centers, laboratories, and sports facilities. Graduates
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) began to offer postgraduate education in 1931, and established the Graduate School in 1984. Upholding the SJTU tradition of “high starting point, solid foundation, strict requirement, emphasizing practice, and pursuing innovation”, the Graduate School cultivated various kinds of excellent talents to meet the needs of the country. As of spring 2021, 80,861 Master's or doctoral degrees have been awarded to its graduate students.
Each year SJTU admits students from nearly 100 countries, and more than 7000 international students are studying on campus. Its 33 colleges and schools offer more than 100 graduate programs to international students. The study duration for master’s programs is usually 2-3 years (full-time), and 4 years (full-time) for doctoral programs.

Non-degree Programs
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a higher education institute in China, which enjoys a long history and a world-renowned reputation. Exchange Program
Exchange agreements allow international students to take courses at SJTU for a or year while paying tuition at their home institution, with the potential to transfer course credit back to their home institutions. Each year, SJTU welcomes more than 1000 exchange students from around the world. Our formal exchange agreements allow students to take undergraduate or graduate coursework at SJTU, which often can be transferred back to their degree at their home institution.
Global Summer School
Global Summer School provides excellent opportunities for students to learn about China through academic and cultural immersion. A wide range of courses in various disciplines are provided, including Public Policy and City Governance, Practice in Restoring Chinese Historical Buildings, Digital Innovations and Smart Construction, and Machine Intelligence and Robotics, each of which will be accompanied by Chinese language courses.
In addition to academic lectures, local excursions, cultural activities, and field trips are also available for International students. From these extracurricular activities, students will learn more about Chinese culture, history, politics, and the latest developments in the country. This is a chance to experience Chinese culture firsthand and to make friends from China and all around the world.
Summer Research Internship
SJTU Summer Research Internship Program aims to promote international research collaboration and enhance the academic environment at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It offers excellent undergraduate students from around the world the opportunity to spend a summer studying at world-class research laboratories, alongside prominent research professors. It will prepare undergraduate students for further studies through intensive research experience with faculty mentors and enrichment activities.
In addition, participants will develop their research skills by enjoying lectures with topics such as “How to Write a Research Essay”, “How to Cooperate in a Project”. Participants will also learn about Chinese language and culture, which will enhance their intercultural awareness and communication.
Pre-University Program
Shanghai Jiao Tong University Pre-University Program is provided by Lifelong Education College，designed for international students to enhance their language skills, academic performance, and cultural adaptability. The students can thus lay a solid foundation for their further undergraduate study.
Chinese Language Programs
The non-degree Chinese language education at the Training Center of the school of Humanities has a history of more than 30 years. We offer long-term language programs (spring and autumn), part-time Chinese language training programs (evening classes), short-term language programs (summer Chinese classes, short-term Chinese culture classes for groups), and online courses. Students can improve their Chinese language skills and experience Chinese culture at the same time, and if they have the opportunity, they can continue to study other academic degree courses at Jiao Tong University. We welcome international students from all over the world to join us and experience the charm of Chinese language and the profound culture of China.
