Dingzhou Museum is currently a national second level museum. Established in 1959, Dingzhou Museum was moved to its new site in 2018 with the original site in the courtyard of Wenmiao Temple. The new building of Dingzhou Museum is located on Zhongshan East Road in Dingzhou City, adjacent to cultural relics and attractions such as the Kaiyuan Temple Pagoda, Gongyuan Temple, Wenmiao, and Yanyangchu Old Residence, as well as antique blocks such as Song Street and Kaiyuan Temple Street. It is in the Han Dynasty architectural style, with a solemn and elegant appearance. It covers an area of about 55 Mu, with a building area of 25,600 square meters. It has five floors in total, with one floor underground and four floors above ground. It consists of permanent exhibition hall, temporary exhibition hall, academic lecture hall, public activity space, happy school, leisure and entertainment area, warehouse area, office area, etc.. With complete public service facilities, it can meet the functional needs of collection, display, research, training and education.
The museum has a collection of over 100,000 cultural relics, including 3 national treasures and 965 national precious cultural relics. The collection is mainly characterized by Zhongshan culture, Ding porcelain culture, Buddhist culture, and classical literature culture, with rich categories and significant value. Many theme exhibitions, such as the Han Dynasty Tomb Tower, the Buddha of the Northern Dynasty, Underground Palaces, the Great White World, the Golden Pearl, and the Starry Sky of the Hometown, focus on Han Dynasty royal mausoleum treasures, Northern Dynasty statues, underground palace treasures, Ding Kiln porcelain essence, Ming and Qing jewelry collection, and historical celebrities, and vividly interpret the glory and splendor of the ancient Zhongshan for more than 2000 years, and fully demonstrate the profound cultural heritage and unique cultural connotation of Dingzhou.
