Introduction
Xiamen University (XMU), established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education. XMU has long been listed among China’s leading universities on the national 211 Project, 985 Project and Double First-Class Initiative, which have been launched by the Chinese government to support selected universities in achieving world-class standing.
With a graduate school, six academic divisions consisting of 33 schools and colleges, and 16 research institutes, XMU boasts a total enrollment of nearly 44,000 full-time students with over 20,000 undergraduates, 18,000 graduate students toward a master’s degree and 5,000 doctoral candidates. Study Cost:
Study costs at Xiamen University are relatively low compared with most of the other major universities in China and beyond. A good variety of scholarships are available to international students, including Chinese Government Scholarships, Confucius Institute Headquarter/Hanban Scholarships, Fujian Provincial Government Scholarships, Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Scholarships and Xiamen University Scholarships. Full scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, living allowance and insurance costs, while partial scholarships cover one or several items under full scholarships.

VI. Accommodation Fee (utility charges not included)
1.The international student apartments on the Siming campus offer 2-person rooms, with daily accommodation fees per bed ranging from RMB 30 to RMB 70. Students on the Xiang’an campus will be accommodated in suites, each of which comprises 4 double-rooms. The accommodation fee is RMB 1600-4000 per academic year. Please refer to the updated notice of the year for the specific accommodation fees.
International students accommodating on campus are required to pay the water and electricity fees in accordance with the University’s regulations. Details related to the charging ways and standards, please refer to the Enrollment Instruction for the New Students.

2. Due to the limited availability of dormitories on the Siming campus, priority will be given to students who are recipients of full scholarships or scholarships that cover on-campus accommodation on the Siming Campus.

Recipients of Chinese Government Scholarships or Confucius Institute Scholarships that cover on-campus accommodation fee, if they give up free on-campus accommodation and choose to live off campus, can apply for accommodation subsidy. 4. Off-Siming campus accommodation:

I. General
1. Do international students need to take a unified entrance examination?
Currently not. For those applicants who pass the verification of qualification, the related college or school will take a video interview assessment, focuses on the students' language communication skills, academic abilities, overall merit, etc. Please refer to related college or school's phone or email notification for the interview procedure.

3. Campus location and accommodation arrangements?
All international students of the following schools/colleges/institutes reside on Xiang’an Campus: Overseas Education College, School of Medicine, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Aerospace Engineering, School of Life Sciences, School of Informatics, College of Oceanography and Earth Sciences, Coastal and Ocean Management Institute, College of Environment and Ecology, College of Energy, and College of Electronic Science and Technology. International undergraduate and master’s students of the School of Information also reside on Xiang’an Campus while its doctoral students stay on Siming Campus.
(1) International student apartments are available on Siming and Xiang’an campuses. The apartments on Siming campus each have a twin-room, while the apartments on Xiang’an campus are in suites, with each suite consisting of four twin-rooms. Each room is equipped with beds, desks and chairs, wardrobes, an air conditioner, a water heater, a bathroom (suites have a different bathroom arrangement), and Internet access (paid by students). Communal self-service washers and dryers and other equipment are available.
(2) Due to the limited availability of on-campus accommodation, priority will be given to students who are recipients of scholarships that include subsidies for on-campus accommodation.
(3) Surplus accommodation will be allotted to students who are recipients of scholarships with no subsidies for accommodation and to self-funded students. Students with on-campus accommodation can live in on-campus housing until June 30 of the academic year. The accommodation fees range from RMB 35 to 65 per person per day on Siming campus, and from RMB 1,600 to 4,000 per academic year per person on Xiang’an campus. Please refer to the updated notice.

5. Language proficiency requirements?
A:
(1) For Chinese-medium programs, applicants should submit valid HSK certificate. For programs in Humanities, Economics, Management, Law, Arts and Traditional Chinese Medicine, HSK band 5 with a score of 210 or above is required. For programs in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, HSK band 4 with a score of 210 or above is required. Applicants whose previous degree programs were taught in Chinese could provide the medium-of-instruction certificate issued by the previous institution as a replacement.
(2) For English-medium programs, valid TOEFL-iBT or IELTS Academic test report is required. Applicants should score at least 80 on TOEFL-iBT, or 6.0 on IELTS Academic. Applicants whose previous degree programs were taught in English could provide the medium-of-instruction certificate issued by the previous institution as a replacement. Native English speakers are exempt from this requirement.
6. Application procedures?
A: Applicants should apply online and pay the application fee at http://application.xmu.edu.cn.
7. Do applicants for master's and doctoral programs need to contact a supervisor in advance?
A: There is no mandatory requirement in this regard. Applicants who have an interested supervisor should note the supervisor's name in the interested supervisor column on the application form. The email addresses of supervisors are available on the website of each school and college. A supervisor's agreement to supervise your studies is not a guarantee of successful application.
8. Do applicants who have not get diploma or the highest degree certificate when applying have chance to sign up?
A: Applicants who are current students should provide a pre-graduation certificate. Applicants who have provided the certificate should submit a notarized copy of their formal diploma to the XMU's Admissions Office before Sept 1, in entry year. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of enrollment.
9. Physical Examination Record for Inbound Travellers?
A: Applicants are required to submit this form when applying. If the applicant is currently in Mainland China, please proceed to local International Travel Healthcare Center to undergo a physical examination, and provide the International Travel Health Examination Certificate issued. If the applicant is currently outside of Mainland China, there is no limit to which hospital carries out the physical examination. The results of the physical examination may be valid for six months only.
10. Intent to learn Chinese?

II. Scholarships
1. Can applicants apply for more than one scholarship at the same time?
A: Yes, eligible applicants can apply for more than one scholarship at the same time, but eventually they can only enjoy one scholarship at most.
2. Do I have to pay a fee for my application for scholarships?
A: Those who apply for scholarships through the University are required to pay their application fees at http://application.xmu.edu.cn.
3. How to apply for Chinese Government Scholarships?
A: There are several programs under the Chinese Government Scholarships. Generally, there are two ways to apply for the scholarship.
(1) Applicants can submit their applications to XMU's Admissions and Examinations Office if they are applying for CSC-Chinese University Programs.
(2) Applicants can submit their applications to a Chinese embassy and consulate if they are applying for CSC-Bilateral Program, MOFCOM Scholarship or ACYLS Scholarship.
